Daily quotes

How do I see the next quote?

On Today, swipe up. A short swipe or a light flick is enough. After your lines for the day, you'll see "That's your N for today". Tap Keep reading for more.

How do I change how many quotes I get a day?

Go to You → My rhythm. Choose how many lines a day (1 to 12), the hours they arrive between, and which days. You'll see the times on a small timeline before you save.

How do I see quotes for how I feel?

Tap the mood icon at the top right of Today, or the Feel button in the middle of the tab bar. Pick a feeling, and Today leans toward lines for it. For anxious, overwhelmed or stressed, you can also do a one-minute breathing exercise first.

Where do the quotes come from?

Classic lines come from published books by famous writers and thinkers. Each one was checked word for word against the original text, which is what the Verified in the original seal means. Tap Info on any quote to see the book, the chapter and the passage it comes from.

Lines marked Agate are our own. They're written with AI to rules we wrote, critiqued by a second AI, then edited and checked against the web so they aren't someone else's words.

I think a quote is wrong or misattributed.

Thank you. Please email us the quote and what looks wrong, and we'll check it against the source.

Notifications

My daily quotes aren't arriving.
  1. Check that notifications are on for Agate in your phone's Settings → Notifications.
  2. Open You → Notifications in the app and make sure your lines aren't paused.
  3. Battery savers can delay alarms. In Settings → Apps → Agate → Battery, choose Unrestricted. On Samsung, also remove it from "Sleeping apps".
  4. Open the app once after restarting your phone. That refreshes the schedule.

Times are approximate on purpose. Android groups alarms to save battery, so a line may come a few minutes early or late.

How do I turn notifications off?

Go to You → Notifications, or turn them off for the app in your phone's settings.

Widgets and wallpaper

How do I add a widget to my home screen?
  1. Touch and hold an empty spot on your home screen.
  2. Tap Widgets, then find Agate.
  3. Drag the size you like onto your home screen. You can choose its look and topics when you place it.
How do I put a quote on my wallpaper?

Go to You → Wallpaper. Pick a quote and a background, then tap Set as wallpaper for your home screen, lock screen or both. You can also save the image instead.

Your look

How do I change the background or text?

Tap Look on Today. Choose a background, light, dark or auto, your own photo, and the text size, weight and position.

Can I stop the background moving, or the vibration?

Yes. Turn off Gentle motion in Look or You. Turn off Vibrate on swipe in You. Motion also pauses on its own when Battery Saver is on.

Kept quotes and your own lines

How do I keep a quote?

Tap Keep under any quote. Everything you keep is in the Kept tab. Swipe through it, or switch to the grid.

Can I write my own lines?

Yes. In Kept, tap Write one. Your lines stay on your phone. You can send them or make a wallpaper from them. To see them in your daily feed too, turn on Show my lines in You.

I got a new phone. Can I move my kept quotes?

There's no account to sign in to. If backup is on in your phone's settings, Android usually brings your settings, kept quotes and your own lines across when you set up the new phone, through your Google backup or a phone-to-phone transfer. To be safe, also save a copy first: You → Data and privacy → Export my data. Your background photo doesn't carry over, so pick it again in Look.

Privacy and your data

Do you collect my data?

No. There are no accounts, ads or analytics, and nothing is sent to us. Read the full Privacy Policy.

How do I delete everything?

Go to You → Data and privacy → Delete my data. It clears everything the app holds on your phone.
